OUTSOURCE LEAD

The Outsource Lead is responsible for facilitating excellence in all outsourced game content for a given project - including art, audio, animation, design and even code in the form of engineered game components. They work with team leadership to select the right content providers, and manage day-to-day communication and the production relationships. They liaise across internal departments to ensure the team has the right processes in place and is providing sound direction and responsible feedback in a timely fashion.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage the flow of communication and relationships with external vendors, including the provision of training modules, style guides, reference material, concept art, tools, bidding packs, detailed asset specifications and project documentation.
  • Working with team leadership and the Studio Outsource Manager, select and approve external vendors for the project.
  • Working with team leadership, establish evaluation criteria and create grading mechanisms for outsource tests.
  • In concert with technical leadership on the team, establish the processes with which the team will use outsourced content, including production pipelines, tools and workflows.
  • Working with team leadership, ensure quality control by coordinating the review of content, ensuring that leads are setting internal quality benchmarks, providing detailed asset specifications, briefs, feedback and ultimately approving the quality of work built by external vendors.
  • Work with Producers to establish production schedules, and hold vendors accountable to meeting agreed upon deadlines and levels of quality.
  • Manage and direct the day-to-day efforts of the Outsourcing Team - including career and performance management of Outsourcing Artists, Outsourcing Designers and Outsourcing Engineers.
  • Ensure that outsourced game content is checked into game builds in time for key project milestones and meets agreed upon levels of quality.
  • Keep Studio Outsource Manager informed of vendor performance, and provide escalations as needed.
  • Report into the Franchise Producer, with a dashed line into the Studio Outsource Manager.

Qualifications

  • 3-5 years experience on AAA console games in a similar role.
  • An expert understanding of game production including planning, organizational, and management aspects
  • Excellent organizational, visual, verbal and written communication, interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Experience with quality control, task scheduling, working within budgetary constraints and deadlines
  • Able to build effective working relationships with subcontractors
  • Able to work independently on routine tasks with little supervision, set your own priorities and schedule your own work
  • Able to travel overseas and visit vendors for on-boarding trips and project checkups

Assets

  • PS3/XBOX360 Action/Adventure experience
  • A post-secondary education and degree relevant to game development
