VFX ARTIST - 7 month contract

The ideal VFX Artist is both an outstanding artist and technically proficient in generating game-useable, efficient material. The position requires a balance of technical, game implementation work and art production. The successful candidate will abstract visuals down to their most basic forms in order to reassemble in a real time game engine and be actively engaged with highly technical, proprietary software. The VFX Artist will understand the serendipitous nature of real-time Visual FX work

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Create, and implement real-time particle effects and animated shaders
  • Model, texture, animate, light and optimize VFX assets under direction of Senior / Lead Artists
  • Understands memory and frame-rate budgets and works within those constraints
  • Technically minded and comfortable using scripting tools to trigger effects based on game events
  • Report into the Lead VFX Artist for the duration of a project.
  • Maintain a consistent art style under the direction of the Lead VFX Artist
  • Learn Proprietary software as required

Qualifications

  • 3+ Years in the Games Industry
  • A post secondary education in traditional art or classical animation
  • Advanced Knowledge of VFX software (e.g. Unreal or other realtime engine, Photoshop, Maya, After FX)
  • Can demonstrate the ability to accurately reproduce natural phenomenon (water, dust, fire, explosions, etc)
  • Can demonstrate the ability to create supernatural or magical phenomenon
  • ability to paint both photo-real and stylized sprites for particle systems
  • An eye for detail and style as demonstrated by a top-rate portfolio or demo reel.
  • Ability to problem solve and associate in a dynamic, deadline-oriented team environment.
  • Excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills.

Assets

  • Additional background in Film or TV VFX is an advantage
  • Artistic experience with Lighting and/or Animation
  • Proven ability to self teach and be a proactive learner, eg VFX teaching experience
  • MEL, Python, C++ or any Shader writing experience
  • Experience creating both Photo-real and non-Photo-real Visual Effects
